How much companionship can you get from a cat?

The Wikileaks founder, Julian Assange, who's been living in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London for nearly four years, has a new companion - a kitten.

She was a gift from his young children to keep him company. Mr Assange is wanted for questioning in Sweden over a rape allegation, which he denies. He believes he'll be extradited to the US to be questioned over the activities of WikiLeaks if he leaves the Embassy.

Celia Haddon, the author of The Joy of Cats spoke to 5 live Drive about what sort of companionship Assange may get from the kitten. She said “he can expect to gain pleasure from her antics, it will grow to love him as they do, and she is something to play with, feed and care for”.

“He has to be on his good behaviour with the cat, you can abuse a dog and it would come back for more, cats are quite sensible, they pack their little bags and leave home.”
