1966 World Cup Final ball visits the studio

The ball that was used in the 1966 World Cup Final visited the 5 live studio

The ball that was used in the 1966 World Cup Final visited the 5 live studios under the care of Dr. Kevin Moore, Director of the National Football Museum in Manchester.

Dr. Moore told the story of the balls whereabouts since the World Cup: “Helmut Haller said there was a German rule that first scorer takes the ball away, so he took it home for 30 years and let his son play with it in the back garden.”

The ball returned to England in 1996, when it was signed by illusionist Uri Gellar: “It went on the Fantasy Football show, Uri asked us all to energise the ball, and it worked. When Gary McAllister took his penalty against England the ball just moved”.

On Saturday, July 30 this year, it'll be exactly 50 years to the day since England won the World Cup. To mark the occasion the ѿý is creating a huge live show at the SSE Arena, Wembley where we'll be telling, and celebrating the story of the game, and the people who made it happen - all in real time.
