Comedian Tommy Cooper honoured with blue plaque

More than 32 years after his death, the legendary Tommy Cooper has been honoured with an English Heritage blue plaque at the home he shared with his wife and two children in Chiswick.

Comic Ken Dodd said: “He had a comic gene inside him and he just couldn’t help making jokes and making people laugh, he was a giant comedian and a lovely man.â€

Cooper is the 10th comedian in London to get a blue plaque, joining the likes of Kenneth Williams, Tony Hancock, and Bud Flanagan.

Comedian Roy Hudd said: “He could make the worst joke sound good, I asked him why he was a marvellous timer, he said I always left a long pause, because I couldn’t remember what came next.â€
