Why paper coffee cups are so hard to recycle
The UK uses about seven million paper coffee cups a day but only 1% get recycled, due to the plastic the paper is combined with.
5 live's Rowan Bridge had exclusive access to James Cropper PLC in Kendal in Cumbria, one of only two sites in the UK that recycle paper cups.
The company extracts the plastic from inside of the cups and recycle it to things like "furniture manufacturers or decking" they then use the paper to make "a very high quality paper".
