For rent: Farm and 500 sheep - £1 a year

The Yorkshire Shepherdess, Amanda Owen, has told 5 live looking after sheep is an “arduous, tiring, 24/7 job” but it’s “a way of life”. She made her comments after The National Trust advertised for a farmer to rent a million pound farm, for just £1 a year.

Parc Farm is on the top of the Great Orme in Wales, comes with 500 grazing sheep and covers 900 acres. The idea of the new role is to protect the rare species and habitats on the land by using traditional farming methods.

Amanda, who is pregnant with her 9th child, runs a farm with 1,000 sheep in Yorkshire. She said having half a million tourists visiting Parc Farm every year is a “win, win situation” as the sheep on the land might not be as “commercially valuable” as other, non-native breeds, so visitors will generate much needed revenue.
