Female MPs: We've had rape threats and abuse online
Labour's Diane Abbott and the SNP's Hannah Bardell, plus former Liberal Democrat minister Jo Swinson, reveal the levels of online abuse they received as Members of Parliament.
5 live approached current and former female MPs about the treatment they've received online. We asked each female MP in Parliament whether they had faced abusive comments or threats on the internet.
Not every MP responded. Some said they didn't answer surveys; one said it wasn't something she'd ever experienced; some asked to be kept anonymous, and told us that they didn't want to make it an issue . However, many said they routinely faced abuse.
