I, Daniel Blake star 'blown away' by Cannes Palme d'Or win
English Director Ken Loach has won his second Palme d'Or with his latest film I, Daniel Blake.
The film, set in Newcastle, centres around Daniel Blake; a middle aged carpenter from Newcastle who is forced to give up work and turn to the welfare state after suffering a heart attack.
Just moments after the film had won the award Dave Johns, who plays Daniel Blake, said he had been "a bit blown away by it all" and was going to celebrate the success with a glass of wine.
The stand-up comedian got the part after hearing that Ken Loach was looking "for a guy his age" and said that he bonded with Ken over his "great sense of humour". He also explained why the film is so special and said it "had the critics in tears" during the screening in Cannes.
