I was James Brown’s backing singer and hairstylist
Soul singer Martha High was James Brown's longest-running backing singer for 32 years. She performed with him at the concert given on the night of Martin Luther King's assassination in 1968. Martha talks to Libby Purves about styling James Brown's hair, how the soul legend used to call her father to report on her performances and how she dealt with the singer's imprisonment for two years.
