ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ should not be 'great public newspaper'

The chancellor said the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ had "got the balance right" over its online operations, and it was right to leave room for a flourishing private press.

George Osborne said the UK had a "great national public broadcaster in the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½, but we don't a great public newspaper in the form of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½".

He was responding to Labour MP Judith Cummins, who called for a debate and vote by MPs on charter renewal.
