Svetlana Alexievich: 'Communism is not dead'
When Svetlana Alexievich was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature last year, judges said that her writing was 'a monument to suffering and courage in our time'. Her books are collages of testimony of ordinary people caught up in traumatic events over the past three decades from Afghanistan, to Ukraine, to her native Belarus and Russia. The collapse of the USSR and the rise of Vladimir Putin is the subject of her latest book, just published in the United Kingdom: "Second Hand Time-The end of the Red Man". So, will she be celebrating the centenary of the Bolshevik Revolution next year?
