The former This Morning presenter, Fern Britton, has told 5 live the attention she received about her gastric band operation, 10 years ago, was "very sexist" and "very stupid".

"If it was a man who had gone through what I had gone through, he would not have had the attention that I received," said the 58-year-old.

"Because I hadn't told the newspapers and shared it with the magazines they were cross. Real people were not cross."

Fearne was talking to Sarah Brett and Ore Oduba on Afternoon Edition about her new novel The Postcard.
