
Virus expert: Rio Olympics will have ‘zero impact’ on Zika spread
A virus expert has welcomed Brazilian government officials’ decision to go ahead with the Olympic Games, claiming they will have “zero impact” on Zika’s global spread.
Professor Ian Goodfellow, a virologist with the University of Cambridge, said the decision was “a very wise one” as Zika spread was caused far more frequently by mosquito bites than human sexual contact.
“Zika, whilst it is a public health concern, is not something we should be overly worried about,” he said.
Government officials in Brazil have told the ѿý there is an "almost zero" chance that visitors to this summer's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro will contract the Zika virus.
