Gloria Hunniford: Cliff's 'never really been back' to house after raid

The close friend of Sir Cliff Richard has said he is "angry" after being wrongly accused of sex abuse.

Gloria Hunniford has said that Cliff Richard has "never really been back" to the house that was raided by police because of allegations of historical sex abuse.

Hunniford, who has been a close friend of Cliff for 45 years, said he has been affected both mentally and physically by a two-year investigation which was dropped last week.

Speaking to 5 live Breakfast's Nicky Campbell she said, "when he started playing tennis again, which he loves and that's his way of keeping fit, all the strength had gone from his body completely".

She explained how she had encouraged Cliff to "live his life and be joyous" now the investigation is over but he that he still feels "angry with (South) Yorkshire Police and the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½".

Sir Cliff was never arrested or charged, but the investigation became public when South Yorkshire Police gave the details of a raid at his home.

South Yorkshire Police apologised "wholeheartedly for the additional anxiety caused" to Sir Cliff by the force's "initial handling of the media interest" in its investigation. "Non-recent allegations are, by their very nature, complex and difficult matters to investigate and can take a considerable amount of time. We appreciate that waiting for a conclusion will undoubtedly have caused additional distress. However, it is in the interests of justice to investigate such matters thoroughly."

A ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ spokesmn said: We applied normal editorial judgements to a story that was covered widely by all media and continued to report the investigation as it developed including the CPS's final decision -- which ran prominently across our news output."
