Battle of the Somme: Diaries
This morning we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.
5 live Breakfast has asked the descendents of men and woman who were there to read the diaries of their ancestors.
Captain Charlie May was killed in the battle, his diary is read by his great nephew Sam Gutteridge.
Frank Meakin survived, his memoirs are read by his great grandson, James Meakin.
Edie Appleton was a nurse dealing with soldiers injuries, her diary is read by great-great-niece Katie Robinson.
