The women growing plants in their bras
Women's Institute members are causing a stir in towns across the UK by turning their bras into what they’re calling “hanging bra-skets”.
The blossoming bra-skets were created as part of a new national sustainable gardening competition run by the WI, with the aim of showing that plants can be grown almost anywhere. They are created by stitching the straps at the back to the underside of the cups, and adding in a plastic bag as a liner.
Kelly Wood, President of the Maple Village WI in Surbiton, told 5 live Daily's Adrian Chiles that, depending on the size of the bra, fruit and vegetables can be grown in them, as well as flowers.
She said she’s been encouraged by the support for the bra-skets from local residents. "We've even had a guy go past on his bike watering them,” she said.
