Behind Chilcot: My soldiers 'liberated' Iraq - Tim Collins
Ahead of the publication of the Chilcot report – the long-awaited report into the Iraq War - 5 live has been speaking to the people behind the headlines.
Former British Army Commander, Colonel Tim Collins, led The Royal Irish Battle Group in to Iraq and became known for his inspirational eve-of-battle speech, a copy of which apparently hung in the White House's Oval Office.
In 2003 he was investigated for alleged war crimes during the conflict, and was later cleared of any wrongdoing. He said the claims were "ludicrous" as he was just trying to "protect" the people it was his "duty to protect".
He said his soldiers had "liberated" Iraq, but "jobbing diplomats" arrived and turned the country "into what it is today - a total mess. A humanitarian disaster."
