Former Conservative leader Michael Howard says Theresa May is "a very determined lady" who has what it takes to be an "extremely good prime minister".

The Conservative peer, who had previously backed Andrea Leadsom to take over from David Cameron said we need to "look to the future and concentrate on the challenges that Theresa May will face and help her all we can to face them."

Lord Howard added that he didn't think a general election was necessary and the current government should be allowed to "run its course until 2020".
