McIlroy on Olympic golf: 'I grew tired of giving the PC answer'
Rory McIlroy has defended the comments he made earlier in the week about his decision not to play at the Rio Olympics because of the Zika virus.
Speaking on Tuesday at the news conference for The Open Championship, McIlroy said he was “not sure” whether he would even watch coverage of the Rio Olympic golf, and instead tune into "events like track and field, swimming, diving, the stuff that matters”.
When asked on Thursday if he regretted the comments, Mcllroy defiantly said "I've thought about Olympics and golf for the last seven years and I decided it was time to stop dancing around the issue".
