President of US Police Foundation: Problems 'accentuated' by social media
The President of the US Police Foundation has told 5 live Breakfast that "it's clear" there are problems in the USA with gun violence, racism and policing but blames social media for "accentuating" them.
Chief Jim Bueerman told 5 live Breakfast's Nicky Campbell: "I'm sure to many people across the UK and across the world it looks like the US is going down in flames but that is just not the case".
He believes that although problems with gun violence are "very complicated", it is important for people to remember that the "overwhelming majority of American cities are safe".
President Obama has called on Americans to unite after a gunman killed three police officers in Baton Rouge in Louisiana. The lone attacker, who was killed by police, has been named as a 29-year-old black man, Gavin Long.
