Wearing high heels can cause ‘damage’

Helen Sewell, a leading voice and communication coach, told 5 live Drive that wearing heels all day could cause ‘damage’ to your vocal cords.
She said that having to speak while standing in high heels ‘makes you think less clearly by adversely affecting your breathing pattern’ and ‘prevents you from projecting your voice properly, forcing you to compensate in ways which risk causing vocal cord damage’.
She also said that people in heels were less able to project an "executive presence" because their brains were being forced to concentrate partly on maintaining their balance in an unnatural posture.
More than 150,000 people have signed a petition asking MPs to stop employers forcing women to wear high heels at work.
"Any employer that requires women to wear high heels in the workplace (but does not require men to do so) is acting in a discriminatory manner because of the negative effects that high heels cause," she said in written evidence presented to a parliamentary.
