Childhood neighbour: I was scared of 'Big Sam' growing up
Sam Allardyce is set to be named as the new England manager, following the resignation of Roy Hodgson in the aftermath of the surprise Euros defeat to Iceland.
Nigel in Bolton called in to the Phil Williams programme to say Allardyce had lived in the same street as him in the 1970s.
He recounted how "Big Sam", who would've been in his 20s at the time, played football in the street against his dad during a party celebrating the Queen's Silver Jubilee.
Nigel added that even as an adult he was "scared" of the Bolton defender, such was his presence around the city.
