'He鈥檚 remarkable!' Surgeon describes man鈥檚 double hand transplant operation
The UK鈥檚 first double hand transplant operation has taken place at Leeds General Infirmary, led by Professor Simon Kay.
Chris King from Doncaster lost both his hands, apart from the thumbs, in an accident involving a metal pressing machine at work three years ago.
Simon, the chief surgeon, told 5 Live Breakfast he felt 鈥渜uite emotional鈥 after seeing how happy Chris was with his new hands.
鈥淗e鈥檚 a remarkable man!鈥
鈥淭he team of which I鈥檓 apart of has completely changed his life. It feels very good indeed.鈥
He also described how he and his team carried out the twelve hour operation, as well as the challenges faced when finding donors.
