Former PGA Tour player Jay Townsend says professional golfers shouldn鈥檛 be competing at the Olympic Games.

Golf will be part of the Olympics for the first time in Rio, but a number of high profile men鈥檚 players including Rory McIlroy have pulled out.

鈥淧rofessionals shouldn鈥檛 be playing at the Olympics,鈥� said Townsend.

鈥淚f it鈥檚 all amateurs, that is how you grow the game.

鈥淭o give a bunch of millionaires the chance to go and win a gold medal which means nothing to them I think is silly," he added.
