Mum of murdered teen: 'CPS has failed me'
Mum of murdered teen Shaquan Fearon said "the system has failed me, a child has died."
A mother whose son was murdered last year, has told 5 Live Breakfast she is devastated that the Crown Prosecution Service has decided to drop the case.
Sharon Fearon's son Shaquan - who was 17 - was stabbed to death and 2 teenagers have faced 3 separate trials in which juries have failed to reach a verdict.
Now the CPS says it won't take the case to court again, but Sharon Fearon says she'll fight the decision and is meeting them later today to try to get them to change their minds.
Sharon told 5 live's Lesley Ashmal: "The system fails me, a child has died. The CPS don't know what I'm going through. His life is taken away from him."
She added: "My child did not take a knife from the house, he did not have a knife on him, for me to lose my child like that, how am I going to live?"
The Crown Prosecution Service said they appreciate Sharon Fearon's position, but also said "The CPS guidance states that only in 'exceptional circumstances' can a case proceed to a second retrial. Having carefully considered all relevant circumstances we concluded the case did not meet this benchmark and we have therefore offered no evidence in relation to the murder charge faced by both defendants."
