Will more companies follow Specsavers to trademark single words?
Optician group Specsavers, which uses the phrase "should've gone to Specsavers" in its advertising, has had its plan to trademark the use of "should've" and "shouldve" approved by the UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO).
Tania Clark, a trademark attorney at Withers and Rogers, told Eddie Mair she was surprised, but that Specsavers weren't the first company to do this.
