How do safe havens work and who do they help?
The government has announced the first recipients of a £15 million fund for new or existing places of safety for people experiencing a mental health crisis.
The aim is to prevent people in distress, who have committed no crime, from being placed in police custody.
Ruth Webster runs a safe haven in Aldershot. She tells Carolyn Quinn how agencies and individuals use the service.
