Samsung Recalls Millions of Smart Phones

Korean electronics giant Samsung recalls new smart phone after reports of battery fires.

When Samsung launched its brand new, state of the art smartphone two weeks ago, it was - as you'd expect - keen to shout about its latest gizmo. However, dozens of people who bought a Galaxy Note 7 have encountered an unexpected feature -- the battery that seems to explode while being charged. Samsung has sold 2.5 million of the $900 devices: it's now recalling them, and is halting further sales while it works out why some of the phones caught fire. The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s technology correspondent Rory Cellan Jones reports.

Marie Keyworth is in the South Korean capital, Seoul, looking at why the birth rate has fallen to an alarmingly low level, while Roger Hearing looks at some of the more unusual jobs thrown up by the country's love of technology.

And for our regular review of the week, we're joined by Hugo Greenhalgh of the Financial Times in London, and Peter Coy of Bloomberg Businessweek in New York. Apple, Brazil and brown shoes are on the agenda.
