‘Controlled fear’ aboard Air Force One on 9/11

Memorial services will be held in New York to remember the almost 3000 people who died in the 9/11 attacks 15 years ago.

After the attacks on September 11th 2001 security concerns meant that every plane in the country was grounded - except one. The only plane in the sky was the one carrying President George Bush back to the White House.

Associated Press journalist Sonya Ross was one of the 60 journalists, advisors and security team who were travelling with the President on Air Force One on that day as the crisis unfolded. She said: “There was a sort of controlled fear aboard; we knew we had a job to do.â€

Sonya saw President Bush towards the end of the journey, and she remembers him saying: “no thug is going to take our country down.â€
