Jonny Brownlee wouldn’t help brother for shot at gold
Team GB Olympic Triathlon heroes, Jonny and Alistair Brownlee, spoke to 5 Live Breakfast about the huge response to their finishing the World Triathlon Series in Mexico together.
Alistair Brownlee, 28, who claimed the triathlon gold in Rio, supported his brother Jonny, 26, who claimed silver, to the finish line of the race in Mexico after Jonny’s legs gave way from heat exhaustion.
Alistair said he acted on “instinct” when he saw Jonny struggling to continue the race to help him over the line.
When asked if he would do the same for Alistair, Jonny said: “now I understand more about heat exhaustion, I think I would”.
However, for Jonny, there is one condition: “If it came to the Olympic Games and there was a chance of winning that gold medal… maybe not.”
