Alliss: 'They fell in love with Arnold Palmer'
The public fell in love with golfer Arnold Palmer, says veteran commentator Peter Alliss.
The crowd were inspired to help Arnold Palmer win by keeping his ball from going out of bounds, such was their love for the US golfer, says Peter Alliss.
Palmer, who has died at the age of at 87, endeared himself to the public because he was an "ordinary person" who liked a drink and did not show off about going to the gym, the former golfer and commentator tells the Today programme.
