Simon Mayo: 'People thought of Terry as a friend'
A remembrance service has been held at Westminster Abbey for Sir Terry Wogan to commemorate 50 years since his first broadcast on the ѿý.
The veteran Irish broadcaster died in January this year after a short illness.
Chris Evans, Joanna Lumley, and Simon Mayo are amongst those paying tribute at the thanksgiving service today.
Radio 2’s Simon Mayo told 5 Live Breakfast that “people thought of him as a friend”.
“People who listen to radio like the friend behind the microphone and nobody did that better than Terry,” he added.
