'Amusement ride accidents are very rare'
Alton Towers operator Merlin Attractions has been fined £5m over the Smiler rollercoaster crash.
Fairground inspector Melvin Sandell, from the Health and Safety Executive, says such incidents are very rare but what happened at Alton Towers shows the industry and the regulator must be vigilant.
