The roots and reach of English poetry
It's National Poetry Day here in the UK with events being marked in many ways: new poems, a special postmark and readings galore. Even Prince Charles has got in on the act. The heir to the British throne has recorded 'The Shipping Forecast', a poem by the famous Irish poet Seamus Heaney. Andrew Marr, author of 'We British: The Poetry of a People' talks about the roots and power of verse in the English language.
