Ex-student: ‘My tutor sexually harassed me’
A woman who was sexually harassed by her personal tutor has told ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ 5 live that she faced a ‘battle’ to complain about his conduct.
Rebecca Nice waived her right to anonymity to speak to 5 live’s Emma Barnett.
She said that she was sent a series of inappropriate messages, many about sex, by a course leader at Winchester University. He's now been investigated and her complaint of sexual harassment upheld.
Rebecca now urged universities to do more regarding sexual harassment claims. “I think there’s a lot of fear around challenging colleagues and a fear of what that could do for the department.â€
Winchester University said that the tutor involved had been disciplined, and added: “Complaints about sexual harassment are extremely rare in this institution. We remain confident in the professional and supportive service our staff provide to our students.â€
