Burnley boss Sean Dyche says Joey Barton's conduct on and off the pitch was 'excellent' when he managed him at Burnley in the Championship.

The 34-year-old English midfielder has been suspended by Scottish Premiership club Rangers over a training ground row in September.

Dyche describes Barton as 鈥渢op class鈥� but also 鈥渧ery demanding鈥�, adding: "I was honest with him, he was honest with me and I found that a good platform to build on.

"If he asked a question he needed an answer, but as long as you were happy to speak with him and give him an answer he was first class.鈥�

Dyche was very coy when asked if he would like Barton to return, saying: "I've got no reason to answer you!"
