'Carlos Alberto was Brazil's best ever captain'
South American football expert Tim Vickery pays tribute to former Brazil captain Carlos Alberto who has died at the age of 72.
Alberto was captain of the legendary Brazil team in the 1970 World Cup and was known as the 'enforcer'.
Vickery spent time with Alberto during his media commitments and admitted the former defender both "charmed and terrified" him. He said: "Alberto was a very fine player indeed. You could argue that he wasn't the best right back that Brazil ever produced but he is probably their best ever captain."
Known as the 'enforcer', Alberto took his duties off the pitch as seriously as those on it. Vickery added: "He was the leader who had that presence. He was the one who would represent the players, go and argue with the directors. He was the one that, if anyone on the pitch needed yelling at - even his great mate Pele, he would do it."
