Waddle: EFL Cup is a 'total rip-off'
Former England winger Chris Waddle says the EFL Cup is a "total rip-off" for supporters, while former Tottenham and Luton boss David Pleat is "disappointed" with the teams fielded by Premier League clubs.
Pleat reached the League Cup semi-finals as manager of Spurs in 1987 and wants current teams to take the competition more seriously. He said: "It is almost as if the big clubs have come together and said ‘we are not going to play our strongest side’.
Waddle, 55, says clubs take advantage of supporters by playing weakened sides. He said: "They should name their teams at the beginning of the week, after they've played at the weekend. It would mean that if you're travelling a long way you'd know that it will be a weaker side and you may not buy a ticket.
"I feel for the punters. They should know who is actually going to play in this competition because it's a total rip-off."
