Johnny Herbert: F1 Crash shattered my confidence
Former Formula One driver Johnny Herbert has said a near fatal crash in 1988 destroyed his confidence when it was at its peak.
The three-time Grand Prix winner described how a number of teams, Lotus, Benetton and Ferrari, were all interested in him the week before the crash. He explained:
"The ball was just getting bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger and with that I'm standing on top of it, my confidence is just at a massive, massive degree where I believe I could be anybody, any car, any track, in any condition."
"after the accident it's like a little pin, gone, and I never, ever ever, had that feeling ever again."
Referring to the confidence at the peak of his career, he told 5 live's Sarah Brett and Nihal Arthanayake:
"So that's I think what you've got with Lewis Hamilton, I think that's probably what he feels".
