Gareth Thomas: Howley should be next Wales head coach
Former skipper Gareth Thomas wants Rob Howley to be the next permanent head coach of the Wales rugby union team.
Howley is temporarily standing in for Warren Gatland, who is taking charge of the 2017 British and Irish Lions tour to New Zealand.
But dual-code international Thomas, who won 100 caps for Wales in union and a further four in rugby league, believes Howley is Gatland's natural long-term successor.
"I think this is a great opportunity for Rob. He's definitely someone who wants to play expansive rugby," Thomas told Eleanor Oldroyd on 5 live Sport.
"As far as the future goes, I think Rob should definitely be in line for the next Wales coach. Because otherwise, what have these last few years as an understudy been worth?"
