Tottenham performance v Leverkusen ‘a wake-up call’ - Jenas
Former Spurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas says the Champions League defeat may be a ‘blessing’
Former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas says the midweek defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League may be a ‘blessing’ ahead of facing Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday.
Spurs lost 1-0 to the German side at Wembley to leave them third in Group E after four matches.
“As a player you go ‘Right, thank god that didn’t happen this week when we’re playing against Arsenal because they’d have probably have pumped six by us and we’d have never have lived that one down,’” said Jenas.
On how the Spurs players may view the defeat, the former England midfielder added, ‘It’s a bit of a wake-up call. Everybody has been talking about us as title contenders, we’ve not lost a game in the Premier League yet, maybe we got a bit above our station and maybe we needed that slap in the face to wake us up.
“It was scary and talking about the players with Arsenal such as Sanchez and Ozil in the form they’re in, they would have dismantled that Spurs defensive display but lets not forget what Ludogorets did to Arsenal,” he added.
