Vern Cotter released as Scotland coach 'too early' - Hastings
Former Scotland captain Gavin Hastings says the decision to replace Vern Cotter with Gregor Townsend as national team coach may have been made 'too early.'
It was announced in August Glasgow Warriors head coach, Townsend, 43, would take over in June 2017.
New Zealander Cotter, 54, has been in charge of the Scots since 2014 and led them to the World Cup quarter-finals last year.
"It does seem early I must admit," said Hastings.
"Gregor has done a terrific job for Glasgow and I'm sure he'll come in to the team and do very, very well.
"There is a feeling he (Cotter) is going a couple of years too early but that decision has been taken and certainly I think the players will be very keen to try and get some further success whilst Vern is still in charge of the team," he added.
