'You just know England are going to come up short'
Commentator George Riley vents his frustration at seeing England lose to Australia in the Four Nations.
Commentator George Riley has vented his frustration at seeing England's rugby league side fail to reach the final of the Four Nations after losing to Australia.
England were beaten 36-18 in London, a result which saw Wayne Bennett's side eliminated from the tournament with New Zealand going on to face Australia in the final.
“I find these things, and contextualising events and defeats for England like this so difficult," said Riley.
"Yes, this is my job - I’m a broadcaster, journalist and commentator, but I love this game and and I love that team, and I’m just sick of it.
"I’m absolutely sick of seeing so much hope, so much optimism, and then actually watching the game and seeing England are competing and actually England are the better team here, but at the back of your head you just know.
"You just know they’re going to come up short.
"Is it the lack of belief? Is it the lack of cutting-edge?
"Or is it just dumb, stupid errors that Australia and New Zealand do not make?
"This cannot keep happening," he added.
