What long term damage can bullying do?
The effects of being bullied as a child could be greater than those of physical or even sexual maltreatment, says Dieter Wolke, professor of psychology at Warwick University.
On a previous episode of PM Lucy Alexander described her son's suicide, which she attributed to his experience of being bullied. Professor Wolke explained that the chances of mental health problems in later life rise significantly if the individual has been excluded by their peers.
