Townsend & Mills: 'Former players shouldn't be expected to work for free'
Former Premier League stars Andy Townsend and Danny Mills agree that there shouldn't be an expectancy placed on players to “give something back” once they have retired.
Both were responding to suggestions that, because their careers have been so financially rewarding, they have an obligation to volunteer their services to coaching youngsters.
Townsend says it should be up to former players to choose to offer their "services for free", and shouldn't be seen as "mandatory".
Mills thinks it is very unlikely members of the public would offer their services for free once they had retired from full-time work.
