Wayne Coyne on Miley Cyrus friendship: age 'doesn't matter'

55-year-old frontman of The Flaming Lips, Wayne Coyne, is not concerned if people think his friendship with 23-year-old pop star Miley Cyrus is "weird".

The pair formed a personal and artistic relationship when Miley Cyrus wished the frontman a happy birthday on Twitter in 2014.

Coyne told 5 live's Nihal Arthanayake and Sarah Brett that people would understand their friendship if they spent "five minutes around her".

He said "it doesn't really matter" that she's so much younger than him, adding "her audience does not care if she plays with The Flaming Lips".
