Ben Ryan: 'My goal as a coach is to make myself redundant'
Ben Ryan, the man who led Fiji to Olympic Rugby Sevens gold in Rio, says "my goal as a coach is to make myself redundant".
Renowned for allowing his sides to play with freedom and flair, the 45-year-old added: "I want to go to a big game and sit in the stands because the players have taken control".
Ryan felt his identity as a "left-field, creative coach" was being lost when coaching in England, but experienced a "re-birth" in Fiji.
"Super Rugby is far more exciting than the Premiership. For me, it's a grind and I don't get excited watching it. The same coaches keep getting regurgitated" he added.
