Sutton: Interviewing Southgate is undermining
Interviewing Gareth Southgate for the permanent England manager's job is a “slap in the face”, according to Chris Sutton.
Southgate attended a three-hour interview for the job on Monday, which is understood to have gone smoothly, although no announcement is expected until 30 November.
The 46-year-old, who has just concluded a four-game stint as interim manager following Sam Allardyce's departure, is the only candidate - something which Chris Sutton feels is undermining.
"Why didn't they just have this meeting behind closed doors and announce Gareth as manager?" Sutton asked Mark Chapman and Adrian Bevington on 5 live Sport.
"It's a little bit undermining I feel, a bit of a slap across the face really."
