Sex Pistols' Jones: Overnight fame 'too much too soon'
Sudden fame was “too much too soon” say Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones.
Speaking to 5 live’s Dotun Adebayo, Jones said the punk band’s infamous appearance on Thames Television’s Today programme with Bill Grundy was the “beginning of the end”.
“We were going along steady before the Grundy thing”, he said. “It shot us into a different stratosphere to where I don’t think we could handle it.”
Host Bill Grundy encouraged the band members to behave outrageously on live daytime television, causing Jones to swear repeatedly before the watershed.
The Sex Pistols are marking 40 years since the release of Anarchy in the UK.
