Jenas: Woodward's actions have given other victims freedom
Former England midfielder Jermaine Jenas says the actions of Andy Woodward over child abuse have given other victims freedom.
Woodward, who played for Bury and Sheffield United, waived his right to anonymity to speak out about being sexually abused by a coach while at Crewe Alexandra between the ages of 11 and 15, which has led to six other former players coming forward.
His abuser, Barry Bennell, has been imprisoned three times over 20 years for abusing young boys, including a nine-year jail sentence handed down in 1998.
"I'm saddened and disgusted that these young players at academies weren't protected," Jenas told Darren Fletcher on 5 live Sport.
"But on the other side of it I'm proud of Andy Woodward in terms of what he's actually been able to do. He's freed all the other players to express their views which they've been holding within themselves for so long."
