Upson: Defoe is still an England centre-forward
Jermain Defoe should still be playing for England, according to former England defender Matthew Upson.
Defoe, who has 55 caps for England, has scored seven goals for Sunderland so far this season and Upson, who won 23 caps between 2003 and 2010, believes the 34-year-old is being unfairly overlooked by the national team.
"I am looking at him and thinking he's still an England centre-forward," Upson told Jermaine Jenas and Darren Fletcher on 5 live Sport.
"He's playing as well as I've seen him play. He's in outstanding form, he's experienced and he'll score goals. He's probably the most natural finisher in my era of playing."
